Anreise:

Travelling by car:

Via the A30 motorway, exit Ibbenbüren, then follow the signs to Mettingen.

Via the A1 motorway, exit Osnabrück Hafen, then follow the signs via Westerkappeln to Mettingen.

Travelling by train:

If you are travelling by train, it is best to get off at Ibbenbüren-Laggenbeck. Numerous bus routes run from Ibbenbüren railway station and various bus stops in Laggenbeck to Mettingen.



Beschreibung:

The route starts in Mettingen and covers around 50.6 km (medium - approx. 3 hrs. 16 min.) with around 114 metres of ascent. The highest point is 84 m, the lowest 45 m.

Stage 1: Mettingen → Recke

The tour starts in Mettingen and first heads north along the Mittelland Canal. In Recke, the marina "Marina Recke" with its maritime atmosphere invites you to take your first break. From there, the route continues to the Alte Ruthemühle - an idyllic ensemble with a local history and basket museum as well as a cosy café offering insights into regional craftsmanship.

Stage 2: ReckeDüsterdiek lowlands

After a break in Recke, the route continues through open countryside towards Düsterdieker Niederung. This species-rich wetland offers ideal conditions for nature observation and quiet moments in the countryside - a real highlight for anyone who wants to experience pure nature.

Stage 3: Düsterdieker Niederung → Westerkappeln (Sloopsteene)

The tour now takes you close to Westerkappeln. The "Sloopsteene" megalithic tomb is located on the edge of the forest - an impressive megalithic site from the Neolithic period. This archaeological feature is one of the oldest evidence of human settlement in the Münsterland region and offers an exciting insight into prehistoric culture.

Stage 4: Return to Mettingen - in the footsteps of Tödden

The route leads back to Mettingen; on the way: traces of the Tödden - the historical, travelling linen merchants of the 17th century. The trail ends at the Tüöttenmuseum, which brings this local trading history to life.
