Beschreibung:
The starting point of the approximately 35-kilometre tour is junction 80 at the market in Mettingen, near the Michaelbrunnen fountain. From there, the route runs through the eastern edge of the town and passes a historic washing station that was once used to clean clothes in the stream water - a relic from earlier times.
The route leads through slightly hilly countryside to Westerkappeln. There, it is worth taking a look at the Protestant church with its massive 12th century tower, which served as a fortified defence system. After around 13 kilometres, the Westerkappeln Tractor Museum invites you to make a stopover. The exhibition displays old agricultural machinery and vehicles that vividly document the development of regional technology.
After Westerkappeln, the route continues towards Laggenbeck. From here, it continues over the Schafberg past the former Nordschacht - the deepest coal mine in Europe until its closure in 2020. The industrial history of the town becomes impressively tangible here. The route then heads back towards Mettingen through the natural Köllbach valley.
