Travelling by car:
Emsdetten is excellently connected to the road network via several main roads. We recommend travelling via the A1 motorway (Cologne-Münster-Bremen) via the Greven exit (coming from the south) and continuing on the B 481 or via the Ladbergen exit (coming from the north) and continuing on the B 475.
From the direction of Emsland and the Netherlands, we recommend travelling via the A 30 motorway (Amsterdam-Osnabrück) to the Rheine-Nord exit. Continue via the B 70 towards Rheine and then via the B 481 towards Emsdetten.
Travelling by train:
Emsdetten has its own railway station in the immediate vicinity of the city centre and is served by various regional trains. There are direct connections to Münster, Rheine, Krefeld, Cologne, Wuppertal, Lingen and Emden, for example.
Beschreibung:
The cycle tour initially leads northwards past Emsdetten railway station. The green landscape soon characterises the landscape. The crossing of the Ems gives an insight into the valuable floodplain landscape of the Ems. The Münsterland-wide network of junctions makes it easy even for those unfamiliar with the area to find their bearings.
The cycle path around the Surenburg castle near Hörstel is particularly idyllic. The picturesque castle is surrounded by peaceful forests. A table and bench combination right next to the cycle path invites you to take a break with a view of the castle. Before you reach the "wet triangle" in Hörstel, charming Bevergern is worth a stop. From the peninsula, you can watch the ships on the Dortmund-Ems Canal and the Mittelland Canal.
Now it's not far to the DA, Gravenhorst Monastery. Visitors encounter art not only in the museum, but also in the extensive park. The monastery café is a nice place to stop for refreshments on the cycle tour.
The cycle route now follows the 100 Castles Route to the outskirts of Ibbenbüren. There the cycle path turns southwards. The cycle path takes a break at the Dörenther Klippen. The viewpoints on the striking cliffs are best explored on foot. Not far away, the Loismann Botanical Gardens and the NaturGart Park are well worth a detour.
With the hills of the Teutoburg Forest behind you, the cycle tour heads towards the small town of Saerbeck. Here it is worth taking a look at the grain distillery museum and visiting the ice cream parlour in the town centre.
The Ems is crossed again on the way to Emsdetten. Before reaching the destination of Emsdetten, the river shows its most beautiful side once again.
The cycle tour runs along the junction network and can be easily travelled via the following junctions:
97 - 99 - 98 - 87 - 86 - 65 - 30 - 26 - 42 - 44 - 45 - 05 - 14 - 15 - 81 - 83 - 85 - 89 - 88 - 09 - 98 - 99 - 97
A shortcut can be taken at Bevergern/Nasses Dreieck (44) along the canal as far as junction 81.
