Tecklenburg County
Tecklenburg
The Tecklenburger Land is a paradise for all those who love nature and culture. The landscape is significantly shaped by the foothills of the Teutoburg Forest. The hilly surroundings, unusual for the Münsterland, make the Tecklenburger Land particularly interesting for hiking. But cyclists also enjoy the variety and the rewarding views over the region. In the north of Tecklenburger Land, the landscape merges into the North German Plain, and several nature reserves, raised bogs and wet meadows are waiting to be discovered.
The cultural centre of the region is the town of Tecklenburg with its historic town centre, castle ruins and the Tecklenburg open-air theatre. But the stories of the Tödden have also had a decisive influence on the Tecklenburg region. Their splendid houses in the individual towns are still a reminder of the golden age of itinerant traders.
The following districts belong to the Tecklenburger Land: Hopsten, Hörstel, Ibbenbüren, Ladbergen, Lengerich, Lienen, Lotte, Mettingen, Recke, Tecklenburg and Westerkappeln.
