Mettingen

Mettingen is a state-recognised resort town and lies on the northern slope of the Teutoburg Forest. Many things in Mettingen are still reminiscent of the traditions of days gone by. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Westphalian itinerant merchants lived in Mettingen - the Tüötten or Tödden. They traded in linen far beyond the town's borders and thus shaped the history of an entire region. The old half-timbered houses in Mettingen are still a reminder of the prosperity of that time. Visitors can learn more about the exciting stories of the lives of the itinerant merchants in the Tüöttenmuseum.

Culturally, Mettingen has a lot to offer: Five museums are waiting to be discovered. But the landscape is also worth a visit. In the south of Mettingen, visitors will find the Teutoburg Forest and the North German Plain - perfect conditions for hiking and cycling.
