In 1927, the megalithic grave was discovered in the Wechte district of Lengerich. The grave, which is around 4,500 years old, was used over a long period of time for the burial of members of an extended family. The megalithic grave has been partially reconstructed and today shows two rows of erratic blocks that were filled with dry-stone masonry in the later Stone Age. Capstones and boulders covered the entire site, creating a real burial chamber.

When the tomb was discovered, a smaller second tomb was found a few metres away, which was integrated into the large tomb on the basis of a vivid reconstruction.

Today, the megalithic tomb provides exciting insights into the burial culture of the younger Stone Age.
