Hiking on the Hermannsweg
Rheine
The 156 km long Hermannsweg is considered one of the most beautiful mountain trails in Germany. It runs along the ridge of the Teutoburg Forest, but for the most part through the two nature parks TERRA.vita and Teutoburg Forest / Eggegebirge. Hermann the Cheruscan, who defeated the Roman general Varus in 9 AD, gave his name to this popular hiking trail.
For hikers from out of town, there are a limited number of free car parks in the Dörenther Klippen area.

car park directly on Münsterstraße offers space for a good 40 cars.
If all the spaces are taken, you can also park in the Ibbenbüren car park at the weekend.

and take the S50 and R21 bus lines to the "Dörenther Berg" stop. The

The stages of the Hermann Heights
If the total distance of 226 km is too much for you, you can also hike the Hermannshöhen in stages. There are 13 stages ranging from 16 to 22 km in length. As the trail is completely signposted and marked in both directions, the trail is "untravellable".
