The Falkenhof Museum shows the history of the farm complex and original life testimonies of the former noble inhabitants. Rheine's city museum also exhibits art from six centuries as well as exciting archaeological and historical objects.
History informationThe Falkenhof was first mentioned in a document in 838. As a Franconian farmstead of Emperor Louis the Pious, the estate was given to Herford Abbey. It remained in the possession of the monastery for centuries and was steadily leased by the monastery to noblemen as a fief. In 1371, the tenant "von Valcke" moved into the farm. It was at this time that the name Falkenhof came into being. Later, the noble family von Morrien moved in and led the farm into its heyday. In the 18th century, it was converted into a baroque complex. Today, the Falkenhof is a modern city museum where paintings and graphic art, archaeological finds and other objects from the city's history are exhibited. The vaulted cellar and the historic Morriensaal are reminders of its use as a noble residence.
