The Moor Tour runs entirely along the well-developed junction network of the NRW cycle network. The red and white arrow signposts at junctions and selected points indicate the direction to long-distance and local destinations. Reliable orientation is therefore guaranteed at all times.

Anreise:

By car

• Coming from the A30 motorway, exit Ibbenbüren
• Coming from the A1 motorway, take the Osnabrück Hafen exit, continue via Westerkappeln to Mettingen

By public transport:

• Via Münster (Westf.) railway station.
• From there, take the express bus line S50 to Ibbenbüren bus station
• Then take the R20 line to Mettingen

Beschreibung:

Start at the market square in Mettingen, not far from the Michaelbrunnen fountain. From there, the route initially leads southwards along quiet paths to Steinbeck. It is worth making a short stop here: a sulphurous spring was discovered back in 1823, which laid the foundations for a spa that is still active today.

The route continues in the direction of Recke. On the way there, the tour runs along the Mittelland Canal and passes the small marina, a picturesque place to linger. The Ruthemühle mill is located shortly before entering Recke. The local history and basket museum there presents traditional crafts and arts and crafts exhibitions.

The tour continues through the Recker Moor. A detour to the observation tower is worthwhile - the view over the vast moorland landscape offers an intense experience of nature.

After the moorland section, the route returns towards Mettingen. The Mittelland Canal is crossed again before the route leads through open fields and small wooded areas back to the starting point at Mettinger Markt.
