The Dörenther Cliffs are one of the best-known landmarks in Münsterland. The bizarre rock formation is located south of the town of Ibbenbüren on the edge of the Teutoburg Forest.
The rock formation stretches for about four kilometres through the landscape. The sandstone rock towers reach a height of 20 metres. But one rock stands out from the cliffs because of its striking shape: the "Squatting Woman". The Dörenther Cliffs were formed about 140 million years ago as sandbanks and deposits of a primeval sea.
Today, the Dörenther Cliffs are a great excursion destination for both active people and those seeking relaxation. Numerous hiking trails lead along the cliff formation and into the adjacent Teutoburg Forest. Here you can enjoy a unique view over the southern Münsterland.
