Ibbenbüren
A varied circular tour through the natural areas around Ibbenbüren: over a distance of around 30 kilometres, the route combines quiet forest paths, wide meadow landscapes and idyllic watercourses. Highlights include the Aasee lake, the Uffelner Heide heath and the Mittelland Canal. Ideal for a relaxed day trip with enjoyment of nature and short stops at viewpoints and rest areas.
Some highlights include the Dörenthe water conservation area, the Dortmund-Ems Canal, the Am Janhaarspool nature reserve and the water treading pool in Brochterbeck.

- Coming from the A1 motorway, take the "Lengerich" exit, then follow the signs to Ibbenbüren
- Take the B219 and Mettinger Straße to Dörenthe
- In Dörenthe, continue to St. Modestus Church, where there are parking facilities nearby
Travelling by bus/train:
- By train from Braunschweig, Bielefeld, Hengelo, Hanover to Ibbenbüren railway station
- From Münster (Westf.) take the S50 bus to Ibbenbüren station
- From the station, take the R45 bus in the direction of Riesenbeck to the "Ibbenbüren-Dörenthe, Kirche" stop
- A free car park and the route starting point are located directly at St. Modestus Church
Beschreibung:
The "Water, meadows, forest" circular tour is around 30 km long and starts at St. Modestus Church in the Dörenthe district of Ibbenbüren. From there, the route first leads through the Dörenthe water conservation area, characterised by quiet forest paths and open fields.
The route then runs along the Dortmund-Ems Canal on a wooded path that offers pleasant shade. The route continues through the meadow-rich Janhaarspool nature reserve and the Wechter Mark, where wet meadows and small bodies of water are home to a variety of bird species.
In Brochterbeck, it is worth making a short detour to the historic Franz restaurant for a break. From there, the route leads back towards Dörenthe, passing through varied landscapes with forests, meadows and small streams. The route is well signposted and offers numerous opportunities to stop off at scenic spots.
Finally, the tour ends at St. Modestus Church.
