Beschreibung:

The "Halde, Hügel, Heide" circular tour starts in Ibbenbüren and initially leads along quiet side roads and country lanes in a westerly direction. The route first leads uphill through beech forest to the Dickenberg. The route then continues leisurely downhill between disused quarries to Uffeln. The Mittelland Canal is reached after just a few kilometres. The accompanying towpath runs pleasantly flat along the water and offers sweeping views over meadows and expanses of water. Passing cargo ships and the tranquil atmosphere give this section a special charm.

The route continues through the open countryside towards Recke and Hopsten. Gentle hills and agricultural areas alternate with near-natural paths. The route soon reaches the impressive "Heiliges Meer" nature reserve. The tranquil lakes and moors are remnants of glacial processes and offer a striking scenic contrast with their unique flora and fauna. Educational trails and observation points invite you to pause for a moment.

The route then continues eastwards through gently undulating sections. The Rudolfschacht spoil tip soon appears on the horizon - a striking relic of Ibbenbüren's mining history. The path leads close to the spoil tip, with a view of the wooded plateau, which is now a refuge for plants and animals. Those who dare to make the short climb will be rewarded with an impressive panoramic view over the Tecklenburger Land region.

The return journey to Ibbenbüren runs along slightly sloping paths through small neighbourhoods and open landscapes. There are always opportunities to take a break along the way - at shady forest edges, old farms or small village squares.

The approx. 24 kilometre long circular tour combines tranquil natural areas, wide views, historical traces of mining and scenic diversity to create a harmonious overall experience between water, forest and heath. Ideal for cyclists who enjoy culture, nature and exercise.
