Beschreibung:
Start at junction 80 on the market square in Mettingen, not far from the Michaelbrunnen fountain. From there, the route follows the tracks of the Tüötten towards Nierenburg. After just a few kilometres, extensive wet meadow areas open up in the "Düsterdieker Niederung" nature reserve - a valuable habitat with a tranquil atmosphere.
The tour continues westwards to Westerkappeln. Just before the town is the "Sloopsteine" megalithic tomb, which is around 4,000 years old and the largest preserved of its kind in Westphalia. The 6.7-kilometre Teuto loop "Sloopsteener Seerunde" begins nearby. The Niedrighaussee lake invites you to take a break.
In Westerkappeln, the moated castle Haus Cappeln with its historic architecture from the 12th and 13th centuries is another highlight - an outdoor tour is possible. The route then leads past Haus Langenbrück, built around 1350, and through the "Rote Brook" nature reserve. An old washing station lines the route back to the starting point in Mettingen.
